The official website for the anime of ONE and Yuusuke Murata‘s One-Punch Man manga revealed on Tuesday that Hikaru Midorikawa will play the character Garou in the upcoming second anime season. Garou is a hero hunter who has a fascination with monsters. Midorikawa will also voice the character in the fourth volume (shown right) of the One-Punch Man Maji CD Drama & Song series, which will debut ahead of the anime on June 20.
In addition, the anime will have a “One-Punch Man Maji Gakuensai” (One-Punch ManSerious School Festival) event on August 12 at Ōmiya Sonic City’s main hall in Saitama. Voice cast members Makoto Furukawa, Kaito Ishikawa, Yuuki Kaji, Hiroki Yasumoto, Masaya Onosaka, Toshiki Masuda, and Hikaru Midorikawa will attend the event with the musical group JAM Project. One-Punch Man Maji CD Drama & Song Vol. 04 will contain a priority sales entry form for the event’s tickets.
Chikara Sakurai (Magimoji Rurumo, episode director for Naruto Shippūden) is replacing Shingo Natsume to direct the season at J.C. Staff (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, Children of the Whales). Madhouse animated the first season.
Yoshikazu Iwanami (Girls und Panzer, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) is replacing Shoji Hata as sound director. Chikashi Kubota (Corpse Princess: Aka, FLCL 2) is returning to design the characters, and Tomohiro Suzuki (ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept.) is again in charge of series composition. Makoto Miyazaki (Triage X, Dragon Crisis!) is also returning to compose the music.
The main cast are reprising their roles in the second season.
The anime’s staff announced in September 2016 that the series would get a second season. Madhouse and director Shingo Natsume‘s first 12-episode anime season aired in Japan from October-December 2015. Viz Media and Daisuki both streamed the series outside of Japan as it aired. The anime premiered with an English dub on Adult Swim‘s Toonami block in July 2016.
Viz Media released the series on home video in North America. The company’s Blu-ray Disc/DVD combo pack shipped with six original video anime (OVA) episodes last April. Each OVA episode features a completely original story written by the manga’s original author ONE.
Murata’s manga series adapts ONE‘s original web manga of the same name. Murata’s manga is currently running on Shueisha‘s free Tonari no Young Jump spinoff website. Shueisha released the 15th compiled book volume in December. The series has 14 million copies in print as of December.
Viz Media is publishing the original manga series digitally on its Weekly Shonen Jumpanthology, and it is also releasing the series in print. Viz Media released the manga’s 13th compiled volume on March 6.
